William Rainey

Born April 10, 1926. Died August 4, 2013. Born in Cleveland, Ohio. Bill moved to Nashville with father William Henry Rainey and mother Louella Young Rainey during his elementary school years. He attended Isaac Litton High School and graduated in 1943. During high school, he worked as a radio engineer at WLAC and had good memories of the station. Bill served at Main Navy in Washington, DC from 1944-1946. He attended Vanderbilt on the GI bill from 1946-1950 while working at WLAC and at the Union Station for NC&St.L railroad and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Bill and Jane McQuiddy were married in 1953. Early in Bill's career, he worked for the Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Company and National Life of Vermont, spending a brief period in Atlanta, Georgia and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Upon his return to Nashville in 1962, he started work for the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company and eventually became General Agent of the Nashville office of the New England for about 15 years. Bill married Marge Punch in February 1991 and retired later that year. He was a lifelong Episcopalian and a long time member of St. Paul's Parish in Franklin. Bill was a member of the Downtown Nashville Exchange Club for over 30 years and of the Lions Club of Spring Hill. He is survived by his wife Marge Punch Rainey, his son Bruce Rainey and Bruce's wife Tamra and daughter Dale, his son Don Rainey and Don's wife Carolee and two children Gabriel and Alannah, and his son John Rainey and John's daughter Erin. A funeral service will be held at 4pm on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 510 West Main Street Franklin, TN 37064, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
