Age 79 of Hendersonville, TN. Left this life December 30, 2006 following a short battle with cancer. A well respected real estate developer in the Hendersonville area for over 50 years, he continued to be a major influence in his company until his death. Born in the Neelys Bend area of Davidson County, he was a life long member of the Game Fowl Breeders Association with a national reputation. Having been a semi-pro baseball player in his youth, Mr. Batey continued to support little league baseball and other community park endeavors throughout his life. Mr. Batey was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ansley F. Batey. Mr. Batey is survived by his loving wife, Betty Scott Batey; sons, Roger D. (Lee Ann) Batey and John M. (Sonia) Batey; daughters, Linda (Mike) McGinness, Lisa (Kenneth) Elam and Leigh Batey; brothers, Thomas W. (Nan) Batey, Ben E. (Gayle) Batey of Bakersfield, CA and Charles B. (Mary Lu) Batey; grandchildren, Brooke Gilliam, Scott Kolemba, Wm. Parker Batey, Emily McGinness, Lila Batey, Melissa McGinness and Anna Lee Batey. The family will receive friends on Sunday and Monday at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home, Hendersonville from 2-5 p.m. and where Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Courtney Wilson officiating. Family will serve as Pallbearers. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison.
