William "Bill" Rufus Baskin Sr, age 73, of Cross Plains, passed away Sunday November 4, 2018 at the Residence of Alive Hospice in Nashville after a brief illness.
Visitation will be at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, White House Saturday November 10 beginning at 10am until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 2pm. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Municipal Cemetery in White House.
Mr. Baskin was bon on May 25, 1945 in Lebanon Tennessee to the late James Linwood Baskin Sr. and the late Elizabeth Scudder Baskin. He was a graduate of Madison High School. Upon graduation, Mr. Baskin began working at a plumbing warehouse where he learned to drive a tractor trailer. He spent over 35 years driving and managing trucking operations for various companies in the Nashville area. He mostly drove throughout the southern part of the United States logging over three million miles in the cab. When Mr. Baskin was physically unable to drive, he began working at Ace Hardware in White House where all the customers affectionately knew him as "Mr. Bill". After eight years of assisting customers with a smile on his face, he retired which he said kept him busier than working. Mr. Baskin enjoyed driving the countryside looking at old cars, visiting with friends and family, tinkering in his garage, and helping anyone any way he could.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers James Baskin Jr and Sam Baskin and sisters Joan Roberts and Betty Fain. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Sandra Baskin; his son William Baskin Jr. (Dee), his daughter Michelle Page; his brothers Tommy Baskin and Ronnie Baskin, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and friends.
