ATWOOD, Wendell Coffman, 87, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007. Born in Beech Grove, TN Aug. 1, 1920, she was an excellent student at Buchanon High School, where she was a member of their state championship girls' basketball team. It was there she met the love of her life George W. Atwood. Following high school, they married, moved to Nashville, and started a family. Her kind, gracious hospitality was evident to all who knew her. Selling men's shirts, ties, and accessories at Cain-Sloan downtown for 29 years, she was a top salesperson, known for her good taste and service. The core and loving focus of her life was family. She leaves behind George her devoted husband for 67 years, two children George S. Atwood of Brentwood, TN and Ginger Atwood Gray of Memphis, TN. Her grandchildren are Kevin Atwood, Kristen Atwood Mainord, Kayce Atwood Hendrix, Rachel Gray Maliszewski, and Jessica Gray. There are nine great grandchildren. She is survived by sisters Martha Reecer and Joy Martin. She is preceeded in death by brothers William Coffman, T.W. Coffman, Jr. and Holloway Coffman and sisters Louise Brandon, Anne Grant, and Bobbie Jane Bradley. Her family and friends have deep sorrow at her loss but are joyful for having known her. Memorial contributions may be made to First Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation is 3-7 pm Fri. Aug. 31 and 10-11 am Sat. Sept. 1st
