Vernon "Snake" Childers, passed away on February 19, 2018. He was born in Hazard (Bulan) KY on September 20, 1939 and lived in Cincinnati, OH for many years. Vernon was the valedictorian of his high school class. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 22 years. Vernon completed 3 combat tours of duty in Vietnam, was stationed in Germany and South Korea. He was also in England, Italy, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Denmark, Canada, Thailand, and Japan.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, who also proudly served in the U.S. Army, Carole Childers, mother Hester Childers Miller, step-father Andrew Miller, father Robert Childers, sister Dorothy Clos Childers, brothers, Harold Truman Childers, James Rolland Childers, and Ulis Childers, who also were in the military.
Vernon is survived by his only child, who also proudly served in the U.S. Army, Christina Humphrey, son-in-law Michael Humphrey, other family, nieces Marla Wentz, Cincinnati, OH, Stormy and Ken Mills, Elsmere, KY, Terry and Dave Wahl, Cincinnati, OH, Cobina Childers, Hazard, KY, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville Friday February 23 from 10 am until service time at 12pm with Charles Baugh, officiating. Interment with military honors will be at 2pm at Kentucky State Veteran's Cemetery West, Hopkinsville, KY.
