Velma Vaden Wakefield, age 90 of Nashville passed away March 26th, 2014.
Mrs. Wakefield was born on April 17, 1923, to the late Henry Monroe Vaden and Ruth Turner Vaden of Humphreys County Tennessee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband of 40 years Douglas "Slim" Wakefield of Big Cove, Alabama, and sister, Ellen Tatum.
She was a graduate of Waverly Central High Class of 1943; longtime member of Charlotte Ave. Church of Christ; Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Long Rifle award recipient, Dickson's Grand Ol' Hatchery supporter, and a Tupperware Dealer for over 60 years. She was an eight year resident of Catholic Charities Adult Day Care.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Blair; her son, Jim (Ruth) Wakefield of Hermitage; daughters, Ginger (Ronald) Reasonover of Nashville and Kathy (Steve) Bay, Gig Harbor, WA, and adopted sons, Greg Wakefield, Only, TN, and John (Cathy) Wakefield of Nashville; grandchildren, Jamie Wakefield, Jennifer Adams, Jason Wakefield, 2LT Todd Reasonover, 2LT Bryan Reasonover, Logan Reasonover, Victoria Bay, Douglas Wakefield, Jessica Wakefield, and Zachary Wakefield; great grandchildren; Gabriel, Serenity, Autumn, & Kiera Adams. Pallbearers will be 2LT Todd Reasonover, Logan Reasonover, Jason Wakefield, and Zachary Wakefield.
Visitation at West Harpeth Funeral Home will be held Monday April 7th, 4 to 8 P.M. Funeral will be Tuesday April 8th at 9:30 A.M. with Bill Shouse officiating. Burial will follow at the Middle TN Veterans Cemetery.
