WAGGONER, Thelma Louise (Yates)
Thelma Waggoner, 96, a resident of Goodlettsville, TN, died peacefully on December 29, 2011. A service will be held on Saturday, December 31st at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home in Goodlettsville; visitation will begin at 10 am, followed by a service at 1pm. A private graveside service will be Monday, January 2, at 11am at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Thelma was born January 11, 1915 in Nashville to parents Linnie Yates (Little) and Hugo Yates. She enjoyed 71 wonderful years in the city of Goodlettsville and later became an active resident of the Maybelle Carter Retirement Life Community. She was a member of Goodlettsville Southern Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Melburn James Waggoner and brother William Carroll Yates. She is survived by two sons, James Ross Waggoner (Elizabeth) of Richmond, VA and Thomas Carroll Waggoner (Ann) of Atlanta, GA, and her daughter Lucy Waggoner Sircy (Alan) of Goodlettsville. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Lisa Malone Gregg (Billy) of Hendersonville, Mary Malone of Nashville, Drew Waggoner (Stephanie) of Marietta, GA, Christy Waggoner Robb (Jim) of Spring Hill, TN, and Kerri Waggoner Loudis (Barry) of New York City; as well as great grandchildren Lauren Gregg, Natalie Gregg, Benjamin Betty, Elizabeth Betty, Sean Waggoner, and nephew Gregory Yates (Diane). Thelma graduated from Central High School in Nashville and will be remembered for her 28 years of service as the secretary at Goodlettsville High School (1953-1981). Following her retirement she was active as a volunteer docent at the Tennessee Governor's Mansion and Bowen-Campbell House, a member of the Mansker Players, and enjoyed playing cards and cheering on the Atlanta Braves. She is also preceded in death by her close friend and companion Charles W. Phipps, and leaves behind many friends at Connell Memorial Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Goodlettsville. The family requests memorial donations are made to Maybelle Carter Retirement Life Community, 208 West Due West Avenue, Madison, TN 37115.
