Selton E. "Gene" Butler, 87, of White House, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019. Born August 6, 1931 in Gallatin, TN, Gene was the son of the late Willie B. Butler and Nellie D. (King) Butler. As a young man, Gene worked briefly for Dupont and also as a truck driver before beginning a long career in the construction industry. Gene worked for the former Waltons Construction for over 25 years until retiring. During his retirement he built homes and garages with his son and also worked for Hardaway Construction of Nashville. Gene had been a member of Burton Masonic Lodge #272, all Scottish Rite Bodies and was also a member of Al Menah Shrine in Nashville. In his spare time he loved to hunt, fish and go camping. He and his wife of 68 years, Betty, travelled to Florida many winters in their Winebago. Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. He is survived by his wife Betty Joyce (Pence) Butler; his children, Brenda Gail (Brian) Stout, Betty Jean (Gary) Sanford, Vickie Lynn (Robert) Russell, Eugene (Christie) Butler, and Brad (Stacey) Butler; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 PM and Friday from 12 - 2 PM at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home, White House. A celebration of life service will be held at the funeral home Friday at 2 PM followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery.
