Gray, Sarah Evelyn Parrish
Mrs. Sarah Gray originally from Crocker Springs Road, Goodlettsville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at age 90 on September 2, 2012 at Tennova Residential Hospice in Knoxville, Tennessee after an extended illness. Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Francis William Gray and by her husband of 12 years, MacRae Smith. She is survived by a son, Francis William (Bill) Gray, Jr. and his family, Peggy Chang and daughter Cassandra Mellon; a daughter, Linda Nell Gray; granddaughters, Rosanna Gray-Swain and Amanda Gray-Swain; a brother Clarence Webber Parrish of Naples, Florida; and a sister, Bobbie Allen of Birmingham, Alabama. Mrs. Gray will be greatly missed by many others including her many nephews and nieces; special friends Bob, Linda, and Stephen Mahley; as well as her friends at Heritage Assisted Living Facility of Knoxville, Tennessee. Mrs. Gray attended Vanderbilt University and graduated as one of the first female microbiologists in the state of Tennessee. Mrs. Gray worked as a well-respected microbiologist at St. Thomas Hospital and at Vanderbilt University Medical Center during the course of her career.
Remains are at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home of Goodlettsville, Tennessee. The hours of visitation are 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3. Graveside service will be conducted at Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison, Tennessee at 1:00 on Wednesday, September 4.
