Sam Shelby, Sr.

SHELBY, Sam Erwin, Sr., age 94, born in Duck River, TN on August 4, 1917 and died on August 14, 2011 in Nashville, TN. Son of Sam Walter Shelby and Mattie Harbison Shelby. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Bennett Shelby; siblings Flora Adair, Alberta Harman, Lloyd Shelby and Henry Shelby. He is survived by his wife, Mary Madget Shelby. Loving father of Sam E. Jane Shelby, Jr. of Nashville and Gary B. Shelby of Louisville, KY. Also survived by grandsons, Andrew Shelby fiancée, Emily Robertson of Chicago and Evan Victoria Shelby of Memphis and numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and loving friends. He served in the US Army in the Quartermaster Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. Proud graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Engineering and Nashville School of Law. He was a member of Hillsboro Church of Christ. The life celebration will be at 10am, Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Interment at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
