Bryant, Ruth Connell - Age 79 of Gallatin passed away gracefully on Sept. 22, 2007 at Sumner Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. In her final days, she was surrounded by family, friends and good conversation. She impressed medical helpers and loved ones with her humor and grit.
Ruth grew up in East Nashville and was a graduate of Isaac Litton High School. She married William P."Bill" Bryant -- also a Litton graduate -- in 1949. She had a strong independent streak and juggled many roles with love and skill; wife, mother, grandmother, public school teacher, volunteer, friend and spiritual seeker. She was generous to all.
Ruth held a master's degree in education from Northern Illinois University. While teaching middle school in suburban Chicago, she taught children challenged by learning disabilities. She loved literature and music.
Survived by her husband, William P. Bill Bryant; two daughters, Linda Bryant and Katherine Bryant; son-in law, John Bowers; brother, Allen Connell Runell; sister, Katherine Phelps Tommy; three grandchildren; Sydonie Kopels, Zachary Kopels and Andrew "Abe" Hurwicz; four step-grandchildren, Sarah Bowers, Richard Bowers, Tamara Kopels and Leah Kopels; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special friend Edmund Davis, Preceded in death by father, Allen P. Connell; mother, Mae C. Connell and daughter, Anne.
Visitation is Sunday, Sept. 30 from 12-2 p.m. at The Gallatin Funeral Home at Crestview, 1620 Highway 109 N., Gallatin. 452-1943. Service follows at 2 p.m.
