LOVE, Russell J. Age 75 years of Nashville, died March 8, 2006 following an extended illness. Born January 11, 1931, in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late A.I. and Olive Krogstad Love. Survived by his loving wife of forty four years, Barbara Love, of Nashville; sons, Steven Chalayne Love, of Asheville, NC; and Gregory Kerry Love, of Nashville; brother, Calvin Sue Love, of Dayton, OH; sister in law, Carolyn Kenneth Lester, of Columbia, CT; brother-in-law, Clark Barbara Williams, of Farmington Hills, MI; grandchildren, Cassandra, Megan, Nicholas Love, all of Nashville; Christopher, Matthew, and Michael Love, all of Asheville, NC; nieces, Peggy Dwight High, of Kettering, OH; Debra Wayne Perry, of Walled Lake, MI; Kristen Williams, of Dearborn, MI; nephews, David Carolyn Love, of Yorkville, IL; Andrew Linda Love, of Lewis Center, OH; six great nieces and nephews. He attended Tulane University, New Orleans, LA; and following graduation from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, served as speech and hearing therapist at the Moody State School for Cerebral Palsied children, Galveston, TX. He returned to Northwestern University and received his PhD in Speech Pathology while holding the positions of graduate assistant and staff clinician, Cerebral Palsy Speech Clinic. After two years as Speech Pathologist, Veterans Administration Hospital, Coral Gables, FL, he returned to Chicago consulting Speech Pathologist, Michael Reese Hospital and Associate Professor, DePaul University. In 1967, he received a dual appointment as chief Speech Pathologist, Bill Wilkerson Hearing and Speech Center, and assistant professor at Vanderbilt University. After a tenure of 28 years, Dr. Love retired as Professor of Speech and Language Pathology, Vanderbilt University and Senior Staff at Bill Wilkerson Center. He was a caring and devoted teacher, much beloved by his students. During his career, he was named a Fellow American Speech- Language -Hearing Association, was
Awarded the honors of the association and life membership in appreciation of extraordinary service to the professions of the Tennessee Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Dr. Love was well known as a speaker on Speech Pathology and as an advocate for Speech handicapped and physically disabled persons. He was the author of numerous professional articles, book chapters, and a text book widely used on childhood Motor Speech Disability and with co-author Wanda Webb on Neurology for the Speech-Language Pathologist. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday March 11, 2006, at 11am from the chapel of the West Harpeth Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Sells officiating. Interment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged to the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center or the Alive Hospice. Visitation with the family will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm and Saturday from 10am until service time
