Ruby Salter

Ruby M. Salter, 95, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021, at her home. Born in Ft. Meade, FL January 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Eugene Sikes and Eliza Frances Brooks Sikes. Ruby was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert B. Salter, Sr.; a daughter, Ann Spangler; her sister, Dorothy Ziegler; and her brothers, Gus and Harry Sikes. Ruby grew up in Florida where she met her late husband at a USO dance. During their marriage, they lived in Florida and Alabama eventually coming to middle Tennessee in 1972. Ruby attended Brush Hill Church in Inglewood. She studied and  trained as a dietician. She loved to cook and dance. She also loved the ocean and beach. She derived her greatest pleasure from family gatherings and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruby is survived by her children, Kay Harris (Dan), Robert B. Salter, Jr., Kelly Hughes (Mike); 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, Sunday from 2 to 5 pm and Monday from 10 – 11:30 am. A life celebration service will be held Monday at 11:30 am followed by interment at the Nashville National Cemetery.
