Roy Bess. Jr.

BESS, Roy F. Jr.-Age 87; died Friday, August 16th, 2013 in Nashville. Born January 29th, 1926 in Nashville, TN, he was the son of the late Roy Frank Bess and Jeanette Day Bess. Mr. Bess grew up in the Woodbine area and attended Central High School, graduating in 1943. Upon graduation, he served in the Navy on the USS Valeria in the South Pacific in World War II. Roy went on to have an accomplished career with the State of Tennessee for over 35 years. Retiring as the Deputy Commissioner of Insurance in 1983. He continued his career as the Sr. Vice President of Governmental Affairs for Unum Provident Companies until 1999. His many achievements included induction into the Tennessee Insurance Hall of Fame in 2001. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Myra; his children, Linda Frances Styskal and her husband George of Chicago, Larry Craig Bess and the late Rhonda Jean Moss of Nashville, and Richard Craig Bess and his wife Karen of Nashville. He is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer Jean Styskal, Kimberly Catherine Styskal and Christopher George Styskal. Roy was a faithful member of Belle Meade United Methodist Church, and its Oxford Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203; or to Belle Meade United Methodist Church, 121 Davidson Road, Nashville, TN 37205. Visitation at 11am and funeral services to follow at 1pm on Tuesday, August 20th, at Belle Meade United Methodist Church. Interment at Harpeth Hills Cemetery.
