Robert Howard Payne

Robert Howard Payne of Estill Springs, TN passed away in Nashville, TN on Dec 21, 2023. He was born in Owensboro, KY on March 5, 1936.

He joined the US Army in 1952 at the age of 16 and served 3 years overseas in Germany during the Korean War.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Alma Lucille.

Mr. Payne is survived by two sons, James Robert (LaDonna) of South Daytona, FL; Michael Wayne (Kathi) of Port Orange, FL and one daughter, Sherry Lynn Babbitt (Jack) of Portland, TN. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Jeff Payne of Deltona, FL; Christopher Payne of Portland, OR; Kevi Meredith of Shelbyville, TN; Jason Barnes of Portland, TN; Robert Payne of Savanah, GA; Tyler Payne of Murfreesboro, TN; Eric Barnes of Oak Grove, TN; Cody Sprayberry of Portland, TN and numerous great-grandchildren.

Mr. Payne retired from Winn-Dixie after more than 35 years of service, then worked for several more years for various companies before finally retiring to spend his time working in his yard with his wife. In the last few years after his wife passed, he remained active and enjoyed going to the Franklin County Senior Citizens Center to play cards. Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
