RICE, Richard Houser "Tip" age 86 of Nashville, Tn. Died November 24, 2007. Born in Mobile, Al. on June 11, 1921, he was graduate of the University of Alabama and Vanderbilt University Divinity School. He served in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Staff sergeant during WWII and was wounded in France in 1945. He began his career in religious journalism in 1949 at the United Methodist Publishing House. He served in various editorial positions including editor of youth publications and retired in 1987. In retirement, he enjoyed family and friends, Apple computers, the internet, jazz music, and teaching church school. He was a member of Andrew Price Memorial United Methodist Church where he taught an adult Sunday school class for over 30 years. He later became a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by his parents, Herbert W. and Mayme Houser Rice; brother Herbert W. Rice, Jr. and sister, Edith R. Morgan. He is survived by his wife Marilyn B. Rice; daughters, Pat Phipps, Debbie Rice, and Stephanie Rice; sons, Richard H. Rice, Jr.Malissa and Philip S. Rice Laurel; step-daughters, Julie Ogletree Loie Hayes and Lauren Bernick Mark Reitter; step-son Frank Ogletree Marie- Paule; sisters, May Eleanor Hughes and Barbara Zadanis; grandchildren, Jim Phipps, Carrie Finan, Amy Seltz, and Richard H. Rice, III; step-grandchildren, Jim Bernick, Rachel Bernick, Nora Hayes and Micha Hayes; great grandchildren, Cameron Phipps, Sydney Phipps, Megan Finan, Lauren Finan, Scott Finan, Matthew Seltz and Allison Seltz. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Bellevue United Methodist Church with David Rainey officiating. Interment will follow in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Church. HARPETH HILLS FUNERAL HOME, 9090 HWY 100, 615 646-9292.
