Janie Pauline "Polly" Vincent Young, age 91 of Goodlettsville, passed away on May 5, 2015.
Mrs. Young was born on September 6, 1923 to the late Roy and Eliza Vincent in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Growing up on a farm with her four other siblings taught her hard work and determination. She was a loving, artistic, fun, energetic and giving person, and she never met a stranger.
She worked for many years in retail and fashion dressing people on Capitol Hill and celebrities like Brenda Lee. After 40 years she retired and she and her loving husband became collectors of primitive antiques and old tools and they loved going to the flea market. They would raise two wonderful kids and have 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Young was a wonderful cook for her family making chocolate fudge pies and sweet potato casseroles, however, she was best known as the "Brownie Queen". She had a love of nature, she could grow the most gorgeous flowers, and her backyard always had an abundance of hummingbirds which she loved.
Quite a few people came in and out of Mrs. Young's life over the years but some that would forever have an impact on her were Mr. Lovell, the CEO of Mercantile stores, and store manager of "Castner-Knott," Mr. Chadwick. Good friends from her store were Fannie Bell, Peggy and Mrs. Burgess among many others. While living with her son Chuck and his wife, Robin, a special friend to Polly near the end of her life was her neighbor, Nan Harris.
Retail was her passion for many years; she would later find a new passion at the age of 80, painting. She loved to paint, everything from barns to regular landscape to beautiful light houses.
Mrs. Young's favorite saying as a Christian that exhibited her trust in God was "There is a Plan." Never being one afraid to make changes if she thought it was right, Polly made the choice to be baptized at the age of 87 when she joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She said she knew that Cliff would have done the same thing if he had lived long enough.
Mrs. Young will forever be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and "Nannie" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Clifton Young, Sr.; sisters Jenny and Lenny; and brothers, Jim and Ollie.
She is survived by her two children Paula (Hap) Minhinnett of Knoxville and Chuck (Robin) Young of Goodlettsville; grandchildren, Jonas (Charlene) Minhinnett, Will (Jenna) Minhinnett, Curtis (Robin) Minhinnett; and great- grandchildren, Chloe, Caden, Carly, Jack, and Finn Minhinnett.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday, May 8th, at the Madison Campus Seventh Day Adventist Church from 10am until the time of service at 1pm. Funeral Services will be held at Madison Campus Seven Day Adventist Church at 1pm with Pastor Julie Vega officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with grandsons Jonas, Will, and Curtis, great-grandson Caden, nephew Billy and son Chuck serving as pallbearers.
