Peter Jon Hoagland, 71, passed away Monday July 27, 2009 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Memorial services will be at noon Friday August 7th at the Cole and Garrett Funeral Home in White House, TN with Pastor Richard Jennings officiating.
Peter Hoagland was born in Nunda, NY and graduated from Nunda Central High school in 1955. In 1960 he graduated from Alfred University with a Bachelor of Science in Ceramic Engineering and received a commission as 2nd lieutenant in the Army. He was honorably discharged in 1962 with the rank of Captain and served in the National Guard until 1969. Mr. Hoagland worked for Republic Steel for 23 years at first in the Buffalo, NY plant and then, beginning in 1979, the Gadsden, AL plant as a ceramic engineer, Mason Superintendent and Maintenance Superintendent. After a couple years working with the Donoho Clay company in Anniston, AL he joined CE Refractories/Vesuvius in 1985 as Director of Marketing. Having relocated to Philadelphia, PA in 1990 Mr. Hoagland moved to Nashville, TN upon his retirement in 2005 and ran a personal consultant company to the steel industry until his death in 2009.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Barbara Hoagland; two children, Robert Hoagland and Laura Garmon; one granddaughter, Amy Garmon; and one brother, David Hoagland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin Hoagland and Helen Hammond; his sisters, Shirley Walsworth and Faith Pritchard; and his daughter, Diane Alford.
