Goodlettsville

Peggy M. Black, passed away on April 12, 2024, in Goodlettsville, Tennessee.  Born September 5, 1935, in Springfield, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John Howard Johnson and Hettie Blanche Sawyers Johnson.  She was a proud life-long resident of Robertson and Davidson Counties.  She was a beloved sister, wife, and aunt in an expansive family.

Peggy was a graduate of the class of 1954 from Springfield High School. Known for her unwavering dedication and kindness, Peggy's generosity shone through in all aspects of her life. Despite her own challenges, she selflessly cared for others and volunteered with Meals on Wheels to ensure that homebound individuals received warm meals.

Peggy found meaning and purpose in her faith. For more than four decades, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Goodlettsville. Her strong Christian beliefs and commitment were beacons of light and a wellspring of comfort to all who knew her.  Her generosity, charity, and faith were evidenced in the successful and long career she enjoyed with Merrill Lynch, where she was a devoted and respected receptionist and PBX operator for over 40 years.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years John (“Jack”) D. Black, and siblings Bessie Johnson, Ann Owens, Rachel Summers, J.D. Johnson, Joe Burns Johnson, and Ruth Offutt. She is survived by her sister Bobbie Shankle, and by multiple generations of nieces and nephews that are dearly loved.
