Paul Tidwell, Jr.

TIDWELL, Paul Jennings, Jr. - Age 88 of Nashville, born August 23, 1924 to parents Paul J. Tidwell and Myrtle Brown Tidwell. Paul went peacefully in the arms of his Savior on August 15, 2013. He is survived by sons, David Tidwell Beverly, and Daniel Tidwell; grandchildren, Joel Tidwell, Rebecca Tidwell, Arianna Tidwell and Grace Tidwell; step grandson, Jeremiah Meyer. Also survived by sister, Mary Hassell and several nephews. Paul is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Binkley Tidwell, the absolute love of his life. Also preceding him in death are his parents, sister, Anne Cruise, and brother, Harold Tidwell. He was a long-time member of West End Church of Christ, former Assistant Insurance Commissioner for the State of Tennessee, and worked in Government Affairs for Cigna Insurance Company. Paul served his country from 1943 to 1946 in the United States Army, stationed part of the time in Kyoto, Japan. He had many stories of his youth, his favorites being from the times he spent with his special grandfather, Levi David Brown, on their farm in Hickman County. Perhaps Paul's most honorable accomplishment was his faithful and unswerving love and care of his wife, Ruth, as she was confined to a nursing home for almost seven years. He spent each day there with her, attending to her needs, and being her constant companion. He spoke of her recently, expressing how much he still missed her. He often referred to her as his "bride". Now he is with her in Heaven. We will miss him greatly. Visitation will be at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home on Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 3pm to 7pm. Visitation will follow on Monday from 9am to time of service at 11am. Brother Don Loftis from Old Hickory Church of Christ, the church Paul attended and was baptized in as a young man, will be officiating.
