Oscar Smith Jr., age 68 of Gallatin, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Alive Hospice at the Skyline Madison Campus. A Sumner County native, he was born to the late Oscar and Nina Walker Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Corey Longey; sister, Jessie M. Strother; brother, Ewing Smith. He is survived by his wife, Peggy F. Smith of Gallatin; sons, Tony Smith Courtney of Portland, Barry Smith Sherry of Bethpage, Paul Smith of Gallatin, William S. Spears of Westmoreland; daughters, Mary Ellen Sherlin Billy of Gallatin, Rita Longey Glenn of Pleasant View; 18 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Smith of Gallatin; sisters, Geneva Cole of Westmoreland, Nancy Brooks Steve of Gallatin. Funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 6 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Gallatin Funeral Home with Bro. Andrew Higgins and Bro. Clarence Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in the Gallatin Memory Gardens at Crestview. Cody Smith, Drew Smith, Josh Spears, Justin Spears, Nick Smith, and Erik Longey will serve as active pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 4 at 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Monday at 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
