Merline Witcher Hicks, age 96, passed away in her home Tuesday, June 4, 2019. Born August 25, 1922 in Haydenburg, TN, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Witcher and Hattie Spivey Witcher. Merline was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Frank C. Hicks. Merline was raised on the family farm in the Haydenburg community of Jackson County, TN. Here she developed her lifelong passions for gardening, raising produce, sewing and cooking at a young age. Merline carried these skills throughout her life by continuing to grow and prepare food for her loved ones well into her later years. She put her heart into every meal and made her home the center for family tradition, being that family was her greatest priority. Merline was also an accomplished quilter and had a deep connection with her church and her Lord. For 22 years, she worked in the cafeteria of Millersville Elementary School. She is survived by her son Frank (Peggie) Hicks; her daughter, Faye (Rodney) Bloodworth; 3 grandchildren, Mark Bloodworth, Kerry (Angie) Bloodworth, and Lesa Melone; 4 great-grandchildren, Knox, Will, Mia and Aidan; her sister, Edith Williams; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville on Thursday, June 6th from 4 - 8 PM and Friday June 7th from 10 - 11 AM. A celebration of life service will be held Friday at 11 AM with Dr. James Ryan and Rev. Jon Briggs officiating. Pallbearers will be Roy Apple, Vern Kleam, Eddie Hoover, Jerry Nixon, Rick Taylor, Conn Raymer, Frank Fox and Craig Callis. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
