MAXIE GENE WAGGONER passed away on July 15, 2010 at age 63 after a long battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his father, Sherman Waggoner and a brother, Larry Waggoner. He is survived by his wife of 42 years and high school sweetheart, Jeanie Waggoner; two daughters, Angie Derek Hodnett and Kristy Kevin Boyd; his mother, Naomi Waggoner; brothers, Kenny Waggoner and Leslie Waggoner; sister, Lynn Duncan; and six grandchildren: Kyle, Abbey & Caleb Hodnett, Dalton, Noah and MacKenzie Boyd. Maxie loved his family dearly and was well-loved by them, as well. Maxie served our country in the United States Army from 1965-1968. After his term in the army, he enrolled in a 4 year electrical school. He retired from Harlan Electric Company. He always felt that he was very blessed to work for such a wonderful organization and great group of people. Steve Harlan was not only a boss, but a dear friend in his life. Maxie was a member of Joelton First Baptist Church for over 20 years and served in many capacities including teacher, deacon, and committee member. Currently, he was a member of Long Hollow Baptist Church. He wanted to thank Long Hollow Baptist Staff for their support during his long illness along with his wonderful Connect Group. His Men's Accountability Group had a special place in his heart. This group consisted of some friends he had for over 25 years, as well as some newer friends. This group shared many prayers, tears, and encouragement together. Each of you men were a blessing to his life. He wanted his neighborhood to know what an amazing group of people they are. He said often he couldn't believe the way his neighbors took care of him and each other. The visits, emails, phone calls, and support shown to him and his family for months was unbelievable. When his front door was open, he was looking for your visits and you were all so faithful to come. You each brought joy and comfort to him in his final time here on this earth. Many times you could have heard Maxie say that God had saved the best for last. Anyone who knew him knew how much he loved golf and how much enjoyment it brought to his life. His final year of golf was filled with many fun and happy memories, mostly involving the Corbett Men's Group at Fairvue. These men were very special to him. Maxie expressed many times his desire to finish his race well and, with God's help, he was able to accomplish this and is finally at Home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 18th at Hendersonville Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. and on Monday, July 19 from 5-6 p.m. at Long Hollow Baptist Church with funeral service beginning at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Long Hollow Baptist Church Crazy Love Building Fund or Missions Fund..
