FISCHER, Mary Harrington, 62, died as she lived: with courage, humor, and grace in the company of family and friends. Oh yes, and her sweet dog, Baxter. She was born in Sioux Falls, SD, and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Since 1970 she has lived in Nashville. Mary was an award-winning sales rep with Glaxo Smith Kline and other pharmaceutical companies. She was vice president of sales and marketing for Girl Scouts of Cumberland Valley of Middle Tennessee. She mentored brownies and scouts, and taught them valuable sales skills. As a proud member of AA, she guided struggling alcoholics along the hard road to sobriety. Their testimonials praise her tenacity, insight, and caring. Besides being funny and smart, Mary was generous and kind. To know her was to love her. Lifelong, she maintained a deep, mutually supportive relationship with her brother, Dick Harrington, her sister, Diane Barnett, and their families. Her son, Chris Green, and her husband, George Fischer, were the pinnacle loves of her life. She is survived by those already named plus Chris's wife, Becky Green, Bob Barnett, Nicole and Justin Barnett, Daniel Barnett, Richard and Erik Harrington, and a host of other family and friends. Mary appreciated beauty in flowers and paintings, and she enjoyed traveling to China, Sweden, England, the Caribbean, Hawaii and other places. For many years she bravely fought Hepatitis C and then liver cancer, which ultimately took her life. She would appreciate anything we can do to advance medical understanding of these diseases. A celebration of Mary's life will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at 3 pm at West Harpeth Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Greenview Foundation at www.hepcfund.org/donations.html. Visitation will be Tuesday, 1pm- 3 pm at WEST HARPETH FUNERAL HOME 6962 Charlotte Pk 615 352-9400
