Mary Charles

CHARLES, Mary Louise Hudgens - Age 96, passed away September 4th, 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband Dr. O.W. Charles; son, David W. Charles; brother, E. Ray Hudgens; and parents, Edgar W. and Cora Mayo Hudgens. She is survived by grandsons, Derek B. and Wesley P. Charles; sister- in-law, Sue Hudgens; daughter-in-law, Patsy Fortenberry and three nieces. She was educated at Central High School and George Peabody College in Nashville, TN. For many years she lived in Athens, GA where Dr. Charles was a professor at the University of Georgia. During that time, she was very active in St. James United Methodist Church and a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital. In 1993, she returned to Nashville and, at that time, became a member of Belle Meade United Methodist Church. Services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10AM in the Chapel of West Harpeth Funeral Home, 6962 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN with visitation Sunday, 2-6PM and one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Madison, TN with friends and family serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, Athens, GA.
