LTC Raymond Jackson Wauford, Sr., 80, of Gallatin passed away Sunday May 23, 2021. Born May 9, 1941, in Madison, TN. He was the son of the late W.C. Wauford and Mamie Lois Jackson. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James Leon Smith. LTC Wauford graduated from Goodlettsville High School; received his BS degree in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University; earned his MS degree in Operations Research from the University of Texas, El Paso, and had worked toward a PhD in Economics at George Washington University. A career Army officer, Air Defense Artillery, he served two tours of duty during the Vietnam campaign, and was an integral part of the peacekeeping commission at the end of that conflict. He served on the Army Staff as a DASC (Department of the Army System Coordinator), in the office of the Secretary of Defense and led various assignments at the Pentagon. LTC Wauford received the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, the Purple Heart, and the Army Commendation Ribbon among his other citations. Following his active military career, LTC Wauford worked for Raytheon Corporation, Inc., retiring as President of Raytheon International. He and his wife lived in many countries throughout the world, traveled to all 50 states of the United States, retired to Gallatin, TN, and Tierra Verde, FL, currently residing in Gallatin. The enjoyment and wellbeing of his family, friendship, and service to his country were the core tenets of his approach to life. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and cousin, a good and kind man, a man of honor and integrity, he enjoyed fishing, loved blues and jazz music, sailing, skiing and being a ham radio operator. LTC Wauford is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Marguerite Smith Wauford; three children, Jennifer Ann Wauford Flanagan (Edward James Flanagan), Lisa Karen Wauford Mason ( Richard C. Mason), and Raymond Jackson Wauford, Jr. (Margaret Mack Wauford); five grandchildren, Roi'si'n Opal Flanagan, Thomas Mack Wauford, Brian Michael Wauford, Jaime "Grace" Wauford and Luke Raymond Wauford; a brother, Stephen Randall Wauford; and a host of comrades and dear friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, TN, Wednesday, June 2nd at 11 AM. Interment with full military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday 3 - 7 PM and Wednesday from 10 - 11 AM. Attendees are welcome to use any Covid precautions that they deem individually necessary. Flowers are acceptable, but the family also suggests donations can be made to the Salvus Center, Inc., (Gallatin, TN) or VFW Post 9851 (Hendersonville, TN).
