Lesta Childers, age 84, of Brentwood, Tennessee died at Green Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday, November 25, 2010.
Lesta was born on January 9, 1926 in Wales, Kentucky, the daughter of Myra and Ernest Tackett. After graduation from Pike County High School in Dorton, Kentucky, then Miller School of Business in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was employed by Citizens Bank in Pikeville, Kentucky as a bookkeeper. On January 24, 1947 Lesta married Eugene Childers. During their 63 years of marriage they lived in six different U.S. locations as well as in the Netherlands and Japan. They retired in Brentwood, Tennessee in 1990 and joined Woodmont Baptist Church in Nashville that same year. Survivors include her sister Lissa Belle Tackett Willis Frank and brother Arthur Tackett Pat; daughter Pamela Phillips David and son Michael Childers Paula; grandchildren Sarah Wills Jason, Julie Young Ben, Samuel Wolfe Lisa, and Jonas Wolfe; two great grandchildren Jackson Wills Sarah & Jason and Avery Wolfe Sam & Lisa. Lesta was preceded in death by her brothers Gomer and Chester Tackett, her granddaughter Emily Childers, and earlier this year by her beloved husband Eugene Childers. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 29 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Highway 100 in Nashville, TN, and again on Tuesday, November 30 at 10:00 A.M. at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. led by Dr. Jon Roebuck. Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.
