Murray, Dr. Lawrence P, Jr. Born November 30, 1930 in Roanoke, Va. Passed away on April 14, 2011 after a brief illness at the age of 80, He was preceded in death by his parents; Lawrence and Della Murray, sister Diane Smith and granddaughter, Melissa Murray. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Boyd Murray, sons Larry Linda Murray, David Jeanna Murray and Jim Donna Murray. Grandchildren, Melanie Will Eidson, Alan, Jennifer, Kristin, Heather and Brandon Murray. He was a 1952 graduate of Virginia Tech and subsequently earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering. He retired from Dupont after 27 years service. He was active in Scouting and was instrumental in organizing Troop 157 in Hendersonville. He served in a number of roles in the Middle Tennessee Council and was awarded the Long Rifle Award from the Hermitage District and the Silver Beaver Award from the Middle Tennessee Council in 1976. He was a member of the Hendersonville First United Methodist Church and enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing and his farm. His family will receive friends from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 17 at Hendersonville Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday , April 18 from the Chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Alexander and Rev. Don Hutchison officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Middle Tennessee Council of the Boys Scouts or to Loved and Concern at the Hendersonville First United Methodist Church.
