Joseph Birdwell, age 90, of Goodlettsville, passed away October 18, 2014 at Vanco Manor.
Joe was born on June 26, 1924 in Greenbrier to the late Joseph Fowler Birdwell and Lillie Adams Birdwell. At age 17 he joined the CCC and served in Oregon. Joe served in the Army during WWII from 1942 to 1945 on battle fronts in France and Germany. He and his wife spent many years traveling in their motor home across the USA and Canada. Joe worked for 25 years in the Body and Fender shop at Beaman Pontiac, Nashville. He then built and managed the Hillview Acres Mobile Park. Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church, Goodlettsville.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Pilkinton and Hazel Fullerton of Nashville.
Mr. Birdwell is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Katherine Jewell Birdwell; son, Dr. Joel Stanley Birdwell, Winchester, TN; and a brother, George Birdwell, Old Hickory, TN.
The family will receive friends from 4-7pm Monday, October 20, 2014, at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville. Funeral Service will be conducted at 7pm Monday in the funeral home chapel with Willard Smith officiating.
