James Earl “Simp” Simpson, Jr. of Goodlettsville, TN, passed away on August 1, 2022, at the age of 77. Born September 3, 1944, in Madison, TN, he was the son of the late James Earl Simpson and Ruth Gilbert Simpson.
Simp grew up in Goodlettsville and was a 1962 graduate of Goodlettsville High School. He went on to serve as a Green Beret in the Army special forces during the Vietnam War where he attained the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor.
Simp was self-employed and stayed active in his businesses until his death. He never met a stranger and always enjoyed getting together with his large group of friends for fellowship, comradery and conversation. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching sporting events, especially football and golf.
In addition to his parents, Simp is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sara Black Simpson and his brother Larry Gilbert Simpson. He is survived by his children Craig (Lori) Simpson, Derek Simpson, Amanda (Kent) Cochran and Earl (Ashleigh) Simpson; grandchildren Carson Cochran, Sara Cochran, Cayden Simpson, Michael (Kimberly) Follis, Holly (Leon) Spangler, J.T. (Christie) Moss, Phoenix Nichols and Pierce Nichols.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, TN. A service in celebration of Simp’s life will be held immediately after visitation.
