James H. "Jimmy" Sawyer, age 84 of Gallatin, passed away January 22, 2009. He was a pioneer of stock car racing in Nashville and was a past President of the TN Racing Association. He was also a member of the National Modified Midget Association and won the Nashville Stock Car Points Championship in 1950. He also served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by a very special friend, Evelyn Smith; his sons, James H. Karen Sawyer II and John Scott Sawyer; his grandchildren, Rachael Marie and Brant Austin Sawyer; his nieces, Kathy Ogles and Irene Acuff. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009 from the Chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2009 and from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, at the Hendersonville Funeral Home. Friends will serve as pallbearers.
