James "Sarge" Turner, age 78 of Gallatin passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2008. A native of Sumner County, he was born to the late Edgar I. Turner Sr. and Mable Crutcher Turner. "Sarge" retired from the military where he spent over twenty years serving in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Post #17 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6197. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers; Charles Turner, and Nelson Turner. He is survived by his brother; "Booker" Turner and his wife Nancy of Gallatin, sister-in-law, Betty Jean Turner of Gallatin, aunt, Alice Bates of Nashville, and two nieces and two nephews. Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from the Gallatin Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Greg Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Gallatin City Cemetery with full military honors. Frank Arias, Greg Arias, Charles Turner, Henry Shaw, Houston Short, and Terry Brazel will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Members of the American Legion Post#17 and Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6197. Visitation will begin on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. and will resume on Saturday at 12 Noon until service time. Online condolences may be submitted to www.harpethhills.com .
