James Milby

MILBY, James Harlan- age 97 of Franklin went to his heavenly home on July 3. He was born on May 3, 1911 in New Berlin, Illinois. He was raised and educated in Springfield, Illinois where he attended Brown Business College. He owned Milby Brothers Legal Supply Company, Tom and Sally's Card and Gift Store and Tom and Sally's Christian Bookstore in Springfield, Illinois. He was one of four founders of Alexander Hamilton Life Insurance Company which is now part of Jefferson Pilot Insurance Company. Jim spent a lifetime in service to others. He taught a Sunday School class for over 30 years. From 1957-1961, he raised $5, 000, 000 for Olivet Nazarene University to build five buildings in memory of his son Tom. For his service to Olivet, Jim received an honorary Doctorate degree. He was a member of Rotary Club of Brentwood and was active in Rotary for over 40 years. He was also an active member of Gideon's International and a member of Harpeth Heights Baptist Church. Jim is survived by his wife of 76 years, Faye, his brother Wesley Milby of Springfield, Illinois, his daughter and son-in-law, Gene and Sally Davidson of Franklin, four grandchildren, Doug Milby of Smyrna, Tennessee, John Davidson of Atlanta, Ga, Brad Davidson of Franklin, Anne Smith of Franklin and 7 great-grandchildren. Services will be on Monday, July 7 at 11:00 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
