James Russell Liebengood, 83, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022. Born July 29, 1938 in Robertson County, TN, James was the son of the late James F. Liebengood and Bernice Weaver Liebengood. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Imogene; and also by a brother, Johnny. Jim was a talented mechanic and highly skilled welder. He had worked as a mechanic at Oscar Meyer for over 20 years, but his passion was racing. He especially loved dirt track racing. He had been a race car driver for decades and often was a competitor at Highland Rim Racetrack locally. He loved doing tree work, cutting and splitting wood. He also had a love for his dogs and that old black truck. Jim was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenbrier. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his daughter Renee Hix (Kenny); grandson, Rusty (Heather) Hix; granddaughter, Cassy Hix; and great-grandchildren, Brody Hix, Eli Hix, Avery Hix, Eleanor Hix, Jake Roark and Jaxon Roark. A celebration of life service will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, TN at 1 PM Saturday, January 8th. Visitation will also be held Saturday from 11 AM until 1 PM. Burial will be at White House Memorial Gardens, White House, TN after final laps around Highland Rim. Pallbearers will be Rusty Hix, Kenny Hix, Brody Hix, Eli Hix, Brad Villines and Bobby Terry. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Williams, Jackie Latimer and Charles Duke.
