James A. Cummings, 86, of Ashland City, passed away Monday, May 30, 2022 at St. Thomas Midtown. Born in Nashville, May 10, 1936, James was the son of the late Rex J. Cummings and Julia Lee Anderson Cummings who raised him in the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hinkley. James was a graduate of Hume Fogg High School in Nashville and had served in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Iowa BB61. He was retired from the United Methodist Publishing House where he had worked for 32 years as a printer. James loved his land in Cheatham County which he proudly named Pleasant View Farm and raised Registered Nubian goats for 19 years. He was a member of the American Dairy Goat Association and many other animals on his farm. He loved cutting the grass on his John Deere tractor, gardening and showing his goats. James was a devoted husband of 61 years to Betty L. Haskins Cummings, a loving father, grandfather and brother. In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by a son, Darryl Cummings; a daughter, Emily Russell; his three grandchildren, Anna Cummings, Jimmy Cummings, and McKenzie Russell; three great-grandchildren, MaKayla Cummings, Marley Cummings, and Nora Cummings; his nieces and nephews, Stephen Hinkley, Kathy Fuller, Stephanie Correia, Stephen Lee, Kevin Lee, Ricky Haskins, and Debra Haskins; and his brother, Harold Dean Cummings. Visitation will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, TN on Friday, June 3rd from 4 to 7 PM and on Saturday, June 4th from12 noon until 1 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1 PM followed by interment with military honors at Ever Rest Cemetery, Pleasant View, TN
