Ivan Noel Newlin of Madison, TN, age 64, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 following a lengthy illness. His children were with him bedside at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Mr. Newlin was born June 2, 1949, to Henry W. Newlin and Ella P. Vann Newlin, in Manchester, TN. He attended public schools in Manchester and graduated from Central High School in 1967. He attended United Electronics Institute in Louisville, KY in 1968 and then enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1969. He served at duty stations in California, overseas in Spain, then Texas, Alaska and Oregon. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1977 having served during the Vietnam Era. He earned a degree in Mining Technology from Casper College in Wyoming in 1984. He was baptized into the Protestant faith in 1985 at Sunrise Baptist Church, Casper, WY. Mr. Newlin enjoyed his family, bluegrass music and festivals, reading and traveling.
Survivors are a son, Patrick N. Newlin of Manchester; a daughter, Amanda R. DeFelice (Bill) of Hermitage, TN, and a beloved grandson, William Grant DeFelice of Hermitage, TN. Also, two sisters; Martha Mauk (Stanley) and Emily Kenney, both of Manchester; one brother, Frederick Newlin (Patricia) who resides in Singapore. Also surviving are aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Newlin was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Tommie and Lonnie, infant twins, and Keith Allen Newlin.
Cremation plans are being handled by Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
