Ira B. McClung, born November 5, 1931, age 77, walked into Heaven on Wednesday June 23, 2009. Mr. McClung retired from the State of Georgia in 1989 at which time he moved to Tennessee to make his home in Gallatin. He was the operations manager of the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga., the third largest convention center in the world. He was also a pilot and a Korean Veteran of the United Sates Air Force. He served his country from 1950 to 1954. Ira was a member of the First Baptist Church. He dedicated a great portion of his life in helping others. He had a great love for teaching others how to enhance their lives by learning to do home repairs, cutting gemstones, repairing jewelry, computer technology, and numerous other skills. He was loved by all. He had great respect for others, and his honesty, work ethics, loyalty, and perseverance are unsurpassed. Most recently, he worked as a people greeter at the Gallatin Wal-Mart Super Store. He loved the people he met and worked with. He always had a smile. His love of people, coupled with his devotion to his family, was his trademark. Survivors include is beloved and devoted wife, Nancy of Gallatin; children, Cynthia Smith of Atlanta, GA, Diane Jones of Orlando, FL, Kimberly Wade of Cornelia, GA, and Bo McClung of Atlanta, GA.; stepchildren, Amanda DiCapo and Sean Aring; and loving grandchildren; brother, Wray "Rogers" McClung; nephews; nieces; brother-in-law Rev. Ed Schaible. Mr. McClung was preceded in death by his parents, Ira B. McClung Sr. and Ora Smith McClung; daughter, Vicky Lynn Coley; sister, Nell Schaible; and sister-in-law, Carolyn McClung. Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Gallatin Funeral Home. Interment will follow on Monday, June 29, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Middle Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery in Nashville. Visitation will begin on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. until service time.
