Howard William McElhiney, Jr., affectionately known as "Mac," passed on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that will always be remembered. Born September 9, 1952, in Nashville, he was the son of the late Howard William McElhiney, Sr. and Frances Head McElhiney.
Mac's career was defined by his commitment to keeping others safe. He worked in security around the Nashville area, instilling a sense of protection wherever he went. However, his service extended far beyond his civilian role. At a young age, Mac showed exceptional courage by lying about his age to join the military early. Mac served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps.
Despite the challenges he faced, Mac maintained a private and reserved personality. Those who knew him understood that behind his quiet demeanor was a man of great strength and integrity. In his leisure time, Mac enjoyed indulging in his hobbies such as being an avid gun and knife enthusiast. He found solace in watching old country westerns and Star Wars movies, immersing himself in tales of heroism and adventure.
Mac will be laid to rest with military graveside honors in Nashville National Cemetery on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 1pm.
Final arrangements entrusted to Cole & Garrett Funeral Home in Goodlettsville.
