GRAY, Homer, age 71, of Gallatin, passed away September 3, 2006. Mr. Gray was born in the Rock Bridge community of Sumner County; he is the son of the late Luther O. and Vallie Mai Hawkins Gray. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law; Frank McCormick, father and mother-in-law; K.A. and Linda Counce, sisters; Margaret McCormick, Frances Bailey, and brother; Carson Gray, Sr. Mr. Gray is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years; Jane Counce Gray, they were married June 20, 1959 by Bro. Charles Cobb at South Water Church of Christ. He is also survived by sisters; Dorothy Bivins, of Gallatin, Edna Shrum, of Cloverdale, IN, Mayzelle Brooks, of Indianapolis, IN, and Carolyn Brown of Bethpage, special nephew; Doug Stinson, special friend to the Gray and Counce families; Nelda Moseley, a devoted sister-in-law; Carolyn Kiber, who was there for him during all his illness and loved him as a brother. Active pallbearers will be, Kenneth Counce, Roy Counce, Larry Counce, Mickey Kiber, Doug Stinson, Mark Smith, Bob Priddy, and James Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be, Dr. Sid King, Jane Proctor, Dr. William Faith, Dr. Robert Mitchell, Dr. Don A. Wright, Junior Rodgers, Herschel Bradley, Roy Lee Gregory, David Hunter, Richard Proctor, Jeff Booker, Judge Fred Kelly, J.B.Gregory, Gilbert Cooper, Doyle Farris, Billy Bass, Mark Brown, Billy Barlow, Larry Barlow, Steve Langford, the Leonard Jackson Family, Mrs. Gray Kittrell, and Mike Stewart. Mr. Gray worked for Kelly Tire Company, owner and operator of Gray's Esso, J.B. Cook, and the Sumner Regional Maintenance Department. He spent most of his life helping others; he will be missed by all who knew him because of his personality and his love for people. Thanks to our many friends for all their kindness and support throughout Homer's illness. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 5, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 am until time of service at Gallatin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 6 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Gallatin Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Williams and Bro. Burnice Wesbrooks officiating. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Sumner Regional Medical Center, and Gallatin Health Care, Station One. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
