Helen Biggs Andrews, 91, entered her eternal rest on Monday, July 3, 2023. She was born on March 2, 1932, at 28 weeks in a taxicab on the way to the hospital in Nashville, TN. There was newspaper article written about her and she loved to tell that story. She was the oldest of four children of Henry and Willie Biggs.

Her father died when she was six years old, so she was called on to help raise her three younger siblings. Helen came from a musical family. Her mother was part of the first female group to ever perform on WSIX radio in 1939. At age 14, she and her two sisters won a singing contest at the All Night Gospel Singing and was awarded a Philco AM radio.

She was a member of the Church of the Firstborn in White House (formerly in Nashville) for more than 80 years. Her first memory of church was singing at four years old. She was a talented singer and shared her talent singing in church, mostly what she called “comfort” songs, for her entire life.

She attended Cohn High School in Nashville but had to quit at age 17 to go to work and help her family. Later in life she earned her GED degree and attended Austin Peay State University and studied Food Service Management. She worked for many years as a home health care giver and preparing meals at the daycare center at Vanderbilt University.

She loved to travel and after she retired, she kept her luggage packed, visiting all 50 of the United States (most of them several times), 12 countries in Europe, as well as Russia, New Zealand, Mexico, and Canada.

She often stated the most important part of her life, and the happiest part of her life, was serving YHWH YHWSH. Her goal was to put Him first and please Him above all else. She worked for the church’s annual fundraiser selling food at the Tennessee State Fair for over 40 years. She was heavily involved in planning and providing the needed labor for many church events including the Golden Age Banquet, the Little Buddy Banquet, Youth Retreats, Vacation Bible School, Golden Oldies Travel Club and starting a Girl Scout Troop. She also formed a Red Hatters group of ladies who helped staff the office at Dayspring Academy for a couple years when it first opened.

She is survived by her three children, Wayne Andrews (White House), Ed (Janie) Andrews (White House) and Kathy (David) Webb (White House), sister Joyce Spicer (White Bluff). granddaughters Amanda Ferris, Rachel (Lewis) Bugg (Cross Plains), Cyndi (Chris) Kepley (White House), Chasity (Eugene) Bagsby (Joelton) and grandsons Shaun (Penny) Andrews (White House), Brandon (Stephanie) Suttle (Gallatin), and Chase (Yolanda) Suttle (Old Hickory), eight Great Grandchildren, and three great-great grandsons, plus many nieces and nephews and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill Andrews, her brother Johnny Biggs, her sister Mary Katherine Finch, and her special uncle Johnny Vick.

Pall bearers will be her grandsons Shaun Andrews, Chris Kepley, Brandon Suttle, Chase Suttle, and great-grandsons Peyton Kepley, Andy Suttle, and Kyle Suttle.

Visitation will be 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Sunday, July 9 and 10:00 am – Noon on Monday, July 10 at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, TN.
