Harold Broussard

BROUSSARD, Harold Lee was born February 7, 1934 in Port Arthur, Texas to Batson died 1975 & Bertha died 1971 Broussard. He died on September 24, 2010 at home in Gallatin, TN just nine days after celebrating 60 years of marriage to his wife, Kathleen Broussard. Harold was raised in the southeast Texas town of Groves. During those childhood years, he worked to help support his siblings and eventually quit school in the ninth grade to work full time as an asbestos worker in the industrial and marine insulation trade. He married Kathleen Wilkinson of Port Arthur, Texas. The couple had six children: Don Ralph 1951, Dennis Lee1952-1952, Danny Ray 1954, Tommy Gene 1957, Cathy Sue 1959 and Russell Levi 1960. As an asbestos worker, Harold's work took he and his family across the United States till they settled back in East Texas in the 1960s. Harold was the principle partner in numerous insulation businesses from 1958 through 1977. But his passion was people. Family members, co-workers & strangers were all part of Harold's daily life. During the years, Harold served as a greeter, building & grounds committeeman, deacon, & Cajun activities cook for numerous Baptist churches throughout east Texas, Virginia, and recently at Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville, TN. As a member of Long Hollow Baptist Church, Harold shared his faith with almost everyone he came in contact with daily. Usually after introducing himself, he would share his love of God & the saving grace in Christ given to us by God. His laughter, stories, and compassion will be dearly missed by those that knew him. But his life of giving and helping others will live on in those that have known & loved him. As Harold aged, his desire was for everyone he knew to come to know the joy and love that he had come to know in his Christian faith. Mr. Broussard is survived by his wife-Kathleen Broussard Gallatin, TN, his sister - Jane Hawkins and her husband Bobby Freeport, TX, his son - Don & daughter-in-law Sandy Amelia, VA, his son - Danny and daughter-in-law, Lea Cleveland, TN, his son -Tommy and daughter-in-law Kym Hendersonville, TN, his daughter Cathy Rayburn and son-in -law Bruce Chesterfield, VA, and his son - Russell and his wife Cherie Portland, TN. He was known as Poppee to the twenty grandchildren biological and spouses, four great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews who also have survived him. Funeral service will be held at Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville on Tuesday, September 28th at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Crestview Memory Gardens. During the past fourteen years of Harold's heart failure illnesses, so many people have helped & prayed for him. The Broussard family wishes to express their thanks to you all. In lieu of flowers, the family would request gifts be given to the VAD programs at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY and Heart Failure Clinic St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN. Visitation with the family will be on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the church and Tuesday from 12 p.m. until service time at Long Hollow Baptist.
