CURTIS, Gerald James Sr., Age 63, passed away quietly at his home on August 24, 2008 following a 14 month battle with cancer. Born in Burns, TN on October 31, 1944, to Robert Jenkins and Elizabeth Garton Curtis. Gerald was predeceased by his father, Robert Curtis and is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Curtis. Survivors also include his wife, Brenda Richardson Curtis, his devoted daughter, Lisa Jo Danny Orange, and "Pappy's Girl" beloved granddaughter Elizabeth Nicole Orange, first wife, Betty Drake Curtis, and their children, Gerald J. Curtis, Jr., and Terri Lynn Curtis Bilbrey, grandchildren, Matthew Daren Bilbrey and McKenzie Dawn Bilbrey, brothers, Bobby Jenkins Curtis, Ashland City, TN and Donald Ernest Tammy Curtis, Ashland City, TN, Terry Lee Curtis, Waverly, TN and David Michael Mitzie Curtis, Ashland City, TN, nieces and nephews, Russell Curtis, Stacy Marlon Hunter, Leighann Andy Conatser, great-nieces and nephews, Marcus Curtis, Logan Curtis, Belinda Curtis, Jessica Hunter, Jamie Allen and many wonderful friends who, each in their own way, have meant so much to him over his lifetime. Gerald loved to help others and spent much of his time after retirement doing just that. He was a member of and worked with Cheatham County Historical and Genealogical Association to raise money for the establishment of the Cheatham County Museum, and as a member of P.A.L.S. Chapter CCHGA worked to clean and preserve local cemeteries. He was also a member of New Hope Church of Christ and the Ashland City Masonic Lodge. Gerald was raised in the Pond Creek area of River Road in Cheatham County and considered that area as home all his life. He had a great love for the people in that area and will be remembered by them and others through his work with P.A.L.S. in writing of "Life on the Creeks", a book that contains memories of many people in Pond Creek, and Lillamay, Sam's Creek Area. A memorial service for all of his wonderful family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 2 p.m. at West Harpeth Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday 1 p.m. until service time at WEST HARPETH FUNERAL HOME 6962 Charlotte Pike
