JOHNSTONE, Georgia Byram of Nashville died on January 17, 2010 at Lakeshore The Meadows. She was born Georgia Frances Byram in Nashville on December 14, 1917. She was a 1935 graduate of Isaac Litton High School, where she was elected Isaac Litton's first homecoming queen in her senior year. After graduation she worked briefly as a secretary in the insurance industry. She also performed in several local singing groups, where she met her future husband, Robert M. Bob Johnstone. They married in 1938. The next year she gave birth to their first child, Robert Johnstone, Jr. In 1944 the family moved to New York City, where Bob was a singer with several noted big bands. In that year their second child, daughter Patricia, was born. In 1948 the family returned to Nashville, where Bob continued his singing career and became a commercial artist. Their third child, Diana, was born in 1950. Georgia was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church here in Nashville, where she and Bob were active members of the Couples Class for many years. In 1969 the family moved once again, this time to Lookout Mountain, Georgia, overlooking Chattanooga where Bob was art director for National Posters, Inc. Upon his retirement in 1990 the family returned to Nashville. Georgia Johnstone was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker; she lived for her family. She enjoyed gardening, was gifted at knitting, sewing and crocheting and loved word games, especially Scrabble, crosswords, and cryptoquotes. She was an avid reader and a lover of music, especially jazz. Georgia is preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Bessie Byram of Nashville, TN and her husband, Bob Robert M. Johnstone, who died in 1994. She is survived by her three children: Dr. Robert Johnstone, Jr. wife Marjorie, of Richmond, Indiana; Patricia Johnstone Seitz of Nashville; and Diana Johnstone Nuehring husband Dr. Stan Nuehring, also of Nashville. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Andrew Seitz, Eric Barker, and Gwyneth Johnstone, and one great-grandchild, Evie Denning Seitz. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with Rev. David Rainey officiating. Burial to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Lakeshore The Meadows and Alive Hospice for their loving care and comfort given to our mother.
