George Gary Harris

Mr. George Gary Harris (AKA Gary Harris); age 91; of Hendersonville left this earthly existence on July 6, 2023 for eternal peace.
 
Gary was a New Year's baby born in Nashville, TN on January 1, 1932 to Grace Tuck Harris and Jesse Harris.  Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his late wife, Helen Lain Harris; brother Hilary Harris; sister Jean Cooper; son Steve Harris; grandson William Frey; and granddaughter Claire Blue.
 
After graduating from Goodlettsville High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force.  He served his country for four years during the Korean War where he was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany.  Upon returning stateside, he earned his bachelor's degree in industrial arts from  George Peabody College. He later earned a Master's degree from Middle Tennessee State University and ultimately retired from teaching for Nashville Metro Public Schools.
 
Gary had a passion for music and loved to play the steel guitar.  During his service overseas, he played in a band for the  Armed Forces Grand Ole Opry. He knew many songwriters and musicians over the years and had a vast knowledge of Country Music.  Along with music, he had a love for Christ and his Heavenly Father.  He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Gary loved animals.  He had many pets over the years and enjoyed watching the birds and giving his beloved cat, Tiger, "Uber rides" on his Jazzy chair.
 
Gary will be missed by many family members, friends and church colleagues.  He is survived by his loving wife and best buddy of 55 years, Ann Lemoine Featherstone Harris, who he lovingly referred to as 'Annie Pop'.  He is also survived by his daughters Cindy Lepley and Janet Frey; sons Carl Harris, Danny Harris and Albert Harris; daughter Amanda Harris; and sons Joseph (Em) Harris and Sam (Janetta) Harris.  He is survived by 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. 
 
Flowers are appreciated or in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Alive Hospice of Nashville or The Alzheimer's Association.
