GREGORY, Dr. George D. (Doc). Of Nashville, January 25, 2008, age 87. Preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and one sister. Survived by his bride of 62 years, Lillene (Lil) Overby Gregory; children, Marty Gregory (Mary), Julia Gregory Armes (Roger), and Maggie Gregory Kersten (Kent); grandchildren, Emily Armes Reasonover (Charles), Rebekah Gregory, Annie Armes, Georgia Allis Kersten, Evan Kersten, and Will Kersten; great-grandchild, Lee Reasonover; brother in law, Joe P. Overby; nieces, Linda O. Freeman, Betty Ray Goodpaster; nephews, Tommy Gregory (Roberta), and John Michael Gregory (Diane). Dr. Gregory attended East High School, David Lipscomb College, and graduated from UT Memphis College of Pharmacy in 1949. He was the owner of Knight Drug Company for many years, and continued to practice pharmacy until his death. Dr. Gregory served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Pharmacist Mate First Class in the Pacific. He was awarded five battle stars. He served on the Board of Directors for First Tennessee Bank for 20 years, he also served on the Board of Metro General Hospital for 10 years, and was a current member of the Board of Advocates for Bordeaux Hospital. Visitation will be at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home Goodlettsville Sunday from 4-8 pm, and Monday from 5-8 pm. Chapel service will be held Tuesday January 29, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Courtney Wilson, officiating. Interment to follow at Nashville National Cemetery, Gallatin Rd. Active pallbearers: Ernie Blunkall, Jimmy Costello, Wayne Smith, Ricci Lynn, Todd Bess, Jeff Moore, Kent Kersten, Evan Kersten. Honorary pallbearers: Joe Overby, Jr., Kendall Lynch, Jack Mayfield, George Diehl, Troy Lynn, Dr. Robert Pilkinton, Dr. Gregory Rowbotham,The Johnson family, the Kirksey family, the Board of the Bordeaux Hospital Advocates, and staff of Tri-Med Pharmacy Services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bordeaux Hospital Advocates, 1414 County Hospital Rd. or the National Kidney Foundation.
