Fay Gaskins

GASKINS, M.D., Fay Mary, 83, of Hendersonville, TN passed April 22, 2009 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She grew up in Campbell, MO. She graduated from Missouri University and received her Medical Degree at Vanderbilt University in 1956. Upon completion of her M.D., she did a residency in pediatrics in Long Beach, CA. She returned to Vanderbilt in 1964 and completed a residency in adolescent psychiatry. She provided care at Central State Psychiatric Hospital while also teaching psychiatry at the Vanderbilt Medical School. She worked at Vanderbilt University in Student Health from 1968 to 1990. She later worked for 8 years at the Veteran Hospital from 1991 until 1997, treating Vietnam Veterans for posttraumatic stress, retiring as a major. She will be greatly missed by her family & friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Kosmotka. She is survived by her sons, Abe, Richard (Jamie) & Joe (Angela) Gaskins; grandchildren, Anna, Kris, Tonya, Bryan, Gabbi, Grace & Gillian; brother, Ned Rice; sister, Dora Belle Briendental. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8pm Friday at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date in Campbell, MO.
