Era Chessor

Era Bell Loveless Chessor, 86, of Nashville went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Coble, Tennessee on February 21, 1927 to Walter and Lola Loveless. Era married Robert Elmo Chessor on November 24, 1948 where they lived in Centerville until relocating to Nashville in 1957. They celebrated 64 years together. Era was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who loved the simple life. She adored her husband, Elmo, and spent many hours helping him creating and maintaining a home for their family.
Her home was her castle and she loved working many hours to keep it in pristine condition. She never wanted to be away from it for very long. Era was an excellent cook and passed along many delicious recipes down to her children and grandchildren. A family favorite was her special spaghetti. Era spent many hours tending to her garden and enjoyed canning and freezing fruits and vegetables for her family. She especially enjoyed her strawberry patch which yielded countless quarts of sun-ripened gems that she used to make her much sought after strawberry cakes and pies at church socials. As a stay-at-home mom, she was always available for her children and made sure that they attended church regularly at Pasquo Church of Christ. Vacation Bible School was mandatory every summer to aide in their continued spiritual growth. She loved little babies and small children and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed planning family Easter Egg hunts for all of the cousins. She lovingly cared for her elderly mother at her home until her passing. As a young woman, Era delighted in playing high school basketball at Centerville High School. She always said that she had trouble concentrating on her school-work and chores at home because she could not wait until the next game. Another favorite past-time was square dancing on Saturday nights in Centerville. Later in life, she would take time out of her busy day to dance a bit in the kitchen in-between chores. While she enjoyed the lively country music songs, she also loved to listen to Jim Reeves' ballads. Era will always be remembered for her love of laughter that she inherited from her father. She loved to hear a funny story, especially about children. Her gentle spirit, sweet smile, and patient demeanor will be sadly missed by all.
Era is survived by her husband, Elmo, her children; Teresa Henley Tommy, Rhonda HagarLynn and Dan Chessor; grandchildren, Tiffany Henley Ethridge Jon, Thomas Henley, Jessica Hagar TaylorAdam and Eric Hagar; four great-grandchildren, Reese & Riley Ethridge and Lleyton & Lorelai Taylor; her sister, Vera Harrison and brother, Joe Loveless. Preceded in death by her parents, Walter Newton Loveless and Lola Maude Ammons Loveless, sisters; Agnes Harris, Dorothy Baker, and Mary Katherine Bates.
A life celebration service will be at 10 am on Saturday, July 20, 2013at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, 5-8 pm and Saturday, 9 am - 10 am at HARPETH HILLS FUNERAL HOME, 9090 hwy 100, Nashville, 615 646-9292
