Mrs. Ellen Hunter Parker of Hendersonville
passed-away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, surrounded by family.
Mrs. Parker was born June 12, 1919 in Shackle Island near Hendersonville, to parents T.W. Hunter and Virginia Hudgins Hunter. She was raised in Shackle Island and Bethpage, and was a lifelong, faithful member, choir member, Sunday school teacher and Elder of Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and a supporter of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church in Bethpage. She was an active supporter of many charitable causes. Mrs. Parker was an alumna of Middle Tennessee State University and a lifelong educator, beginning her career in one room schoolhouses and teaching across the area for over 40 years.
She is preceded in rest by her loving husband of 69 years, Orval Parker and by her son, Orval "Bubba" Parker, Jr, brothers Dewey Hunter, William Hunter, Alonzo Hunter and sister Virginia Thomas Hunter Garrett. Mrs. Parker is survived by her daughter, Shirley Parker Briley of Loganville, Georgia,
her brother, Thomas Hunter, Jr, of Hendersonville and her two sisters, Jo-ann Jenkins and Kate McGee, both of Goodlettsville, her daughter-in-law Marilynn Parker of Gallatin, five grandchildren, grandchildren-in-law,
12 great grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at Cole and Garrett in Goodlettsville on Saturday evening between 4 and 7.
Services will be held at 2pm Sunday afternoon at Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Beech Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Old Beech Church Building Fund.
