LACEY, Eliza Katherine
Kathy, age 68 of Hendersonville, Tennessee, born on September 29, 1939 in Big Piney, Arkansas ended her struggle with Alzheimer's disease on Friday June 6th under a rare deep blue Tennessee sky. She was a kind, thoughtful, stoic, and unique lady who made all of us around her better by her example. She has exited this life and happily rejoined all of those she has missed so dearly. Kathy is preceded in death by her devoted husband Earl Lacey, her parents Jeff and Annie Mae McNabb, her brothers Charles, Chester Lee, and Sherman McNabb, her sisters Shirley Tobin and Pearly McNabb. She is survived by her sister Thelma Ferguson of Earlimart, California, and brothers John McNabb of Williams, Arizona, and David McNabb of Lumberton, North Carolina. her children Christopher Lacey of Hendersonville, Mary Anna Lacey of Nashville, Michele Gasterland Chad of Gallatin, and Keri Edwards Tommy of Hendersonville, her grandchildren Tommy and Josh Edwards, Christopher Lacey, and Lacey and Keely Gasterland.
Kathy was happiest when singing around the backyard fire pit surrounded by friends and family. From gospel to country to heavy metal, she was admired for her ability to sing along with any song. Her particular talent was in her uncanny ability to apply the yodel to any song and somehow make it sound appropriate. Those who were fortunate enough to hear her yodel over hard rock songs as if the two were meant to go together will always remember those occasions with fondness. Her voice will be sorely missed.
Despite an 11th grade education, Kathy was a formidable Scrabble opponent who sent many a college graduate scrambling for a dictionary. She justifiably took pride in the fact that the ever dreaded L.A. Times crossword puzzle to her was just barely a challenge.
Kathy had a wide range of talents and interests. When her children were young, they were often clad in dresses that were made entirely by her hand. She also enjoyed quilting, macramé, and woodworking. Other passions of Kathy's were going to Las Vegas, playing bingo, visiting our nation's National Parks, and most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren. Although she was gifted in many areas, her area of unequaled excellence was in the art of bargain shopping at garage sales.
To say that Kathy could haggle is a gross understatement….. She approached each sale as battle to be won. For a 25 cent trinket, she would wear on the steadiest seller until they exhaustedly accepted a dime. For a woman who would gladly give her last dime if asked for it, those who loved her know that for Kathy, it was not about the victory, it was about the struggle….
Services will be held at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center on Monday June 9th, 2008 with Visitation beginning at 4 pm and Memorial Services at 6pm with Reverend Rob Courtney officiating. Her wishes were to be cremated and her ashes to be spread along with her husband's in a private family ceremony to be held at a later time.
