FORTNER, Elbert Raymond, Age 86 of Nashville. August 28, 2008. Raymond was born in Ashland, Mississippi on February 9, 1922 to C. A. Fortner 1883-1968 and Ann Poff Fortner 1883–1964. Raymond is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nell Griffin Fortner of Nashville; two daughters, Betty Tyree of Mt. Juliet, Tn. and Pamela Wayne Martin of Ashland City, Tn.; two sons, Talmage Sharon Fortner of Nashville and Steven Rose Fortner of Florida; five grandchildren, Robert Martin, Cindy Jason Boyd, Jamie Kevin Martin, Mark Loretta Tyree, and Kristopher Fortner; four step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ethan, Noah and Rachel Boyd, Alexis Thornton, Ashley Martin, and Samantha Tyree; five step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Fortner of Ashland, Ms. and one sister, Cornelia Curbo of Olive Branch, Ms. He was preceded in death by brothers Ernest Fortner, Orville Fortner, Benjamin Fortner, and Elmer Fortner, and sisters Ethelene Shoffner, Ina McCullum, Sarah Fortner and Lena Fortner. Raymond was an active member of Westwood Baptist Church in Nashville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving during World War II from 1942 through 1945. In 1984 after 28 years of service he retired from the Nashville Ford Glass Plant where he was known as "Slim". The funeral service will be at 10 am, Saturday, August 30, 2008 at West Harpeth Funeral Home with Brother Jerry Foust officiating. Pallbearers will be his nephews. Interment at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, 4-8 pm at WEST HARPETH FUNERAL HOME 6962 Charlotte Pk 615 352-9400
